Our Successful First Week

We eased our way back into school this week and had a lot of fun!

FIRST DAY FUN:

Special Gifts

A few M&M Games

First Letter of the Week: O!

First Day of Classes:

Everyone loves Mrs. Wallen!

K had the "Guessing Can" for his last day of Kindergarten, but ended up sick and couldn't be there for it. We took it to his teacher and she actually sent it home with T to do it on the first day of school. He couldn't have been more excited!!

We didn't start every subject  back up, but we did begin Intro To Geography with our Expedition Earth curriculum. The boys are loving it. We started off by talking about maps. We read Me on the Map by Joan Sweeney and followed with a fun art activity.

A perfect start to our Intro to geography was a kick off of our Bible Curriculum, Answers in Genesis, in which we began studying Creation Days 1-5. We began our Creation Lapbooks in which we will finish next week as we study Day 6 and Day 7.  Our first focus of geography was Earth as a whole.

Things we learned about our Earth:

  • Earth was Created on Day 1 along with night and day which means that the Earth had already had to be rotating.
  • What God Created for us to live here on Earth on Days 2-6
  • Earth is a sphere.
  • The names and locations of the 7 Continents and 5 Oceans
  • 4 of the imaginary lines: Equator, Prime Meridian, Artic and Antarctic Circle.
We have learned a fun catchy song all about the Continents and Oceans from our Geography Song CD.

One of the activities we enjoyed was creating Earth Rice Krispie treats. YUM!

With this map, we remove and label the continents and oceans correctly.

We played a game called the Continent Hop:

We finished off the week creating our Continent Mobile.

This is a new thing we added this year as well our... Calendar Notebooks. The boys love them and have caught on quickly on how to complete them.

Carsten has his own calendar notebook and chooses to do it or write on his white board.

We are looking forward to Week #2. We are adding in a few more of our subjects and finishing up our Continents and Oceans topic. We will also begin learning about the classes of all the animals that God created for us. Stay tuned as we have a fun art project we will be completing!!
