Principal Clements (Daddy) has begun our countdown by leaving us a special activity for the day. (We received each of these great ideas from a dear friend of mine!)
We have been learning about all the different coins and their values for the past couple of weeks so on Day 90, we counted out 100 dollar bills. They were then asked to draw a picture of what they would buy with that money if it were real. K said he would buy a DS (of course, since that's what he's saving for right now!) and T said he would buy a boat. (I was really surprised his answer wasn't a DS since he is saving for one as well).
Later on, they received an actual (fake)100 dollar bill in their workboxes to play with. A few minutes after T found it in his box, he came up to me asking "Mommy, is this real?" He was extremely hurt and upset (giving me the most honest/saddest face ever) when my response was that it was not real. "But mom, I was going to use that for my DS!" It was probably the saddest conversation I have had with him. He was so devastated and I felt so bad that I had led him to think that he had finally gotten enough money for his DS. :( I discovered later that he had the same conversation with Kirby moments before. He was questioning daddy which is why he chose to doublecheck with me. What he doesn't know now, is that, this conversation led to DOUBLE DOLLAR DAY for their chores. I'm telling you, it broke my heart to see him so sad and I knew that he is still SO far away from buying it. Tough lessons are hard to learn and it may pull at my heart strings to see them work so hard for something that seems so far away, but it will be a great lesson of patience, perseverance and learning to be financially smart with their money.
