Since we decided to begin our unit with the days of creation, I held off talking much about the sun, stars and planets until Day 4 since, well, that's when it was all created, but a week before we planned to really start, Kirby heard that we were starting our Space theme and was pretty anxious to show them a video he had been watching about the stars so he began his own little lesson tonight. Although the video was a little complex for them and T didn't watch much at all, it was quite interesting and we were able to pause and explain a few things. It has some pretty amazing pictures of Earth!
K was very intrigued by it all. He was also surprised to hear that there were stars bigger than the sun. He made the comment, "but the stars are smaller!" so I immediately pulled out my camera and took a picture to help clarify why the stars looked smaller. (I had just seen this on a blog somewhere else. Probably thanks to Pinterest!)

| T is holding a larger green ball (can you see him in the background), while I am holding a small blue ball. K knew which one was bigger so he was surprised to see that the blue ball looked larger. I asked him why and he knew that it was because it was closer. Kirby was proud of my explanation. :) |

| Of course after that picture, Kirby wanted to explain the orbit system so we pulled out the balls. |

| Our sun and 8 planets (poor Pluto) |
 |
| We actually moved the balls around to show them that they aren't actually in a line. |
 |
| Here Kirby is trying to explain how the Earth rotates and orbits around the sun all while our moon is moving around Earth. Yah a little much right now, but he did great. :) |
I am definitely planning on breaking this all down little by little, but he created a great introduction to our theme! Thanks Principal Clements (Daddy) :)
